ABOUT LEAP

The Leadership & Education for Africa Project (LEAP) is committed to supporting leaders to rebuild Liberia through efforts in education, health, agriculture, and business development. Our mission is to partner with men and women of character in Liberia, providing the tools and resources needed for them to serve the physical, mental, and spiritual needs of the people of Liberia.

History

Liberia endured a bloody civil war through the 1990's and 2000's, which claimed hundreds of thousands of innocent lives. Once peace was restored to Liberia in 2005, the country was left with its entire infrastructure in ruins—its utilities and public services, its schools and universities, its hospitals and clinics, its economy, and even its culture.

A meeting in Monrovia between an adoptive American father (Sean Towle), and the Liberian leader of the Light Stream Academy, Monrovia (David Fatorma), led to the establishment in the United States of the Leadership & Education for Africa Project (LEAP) in 2009, and the United Kingdom chapter, LEAP-UK in 2014. LEAP’s largest, current area of focus is supporting the underprivileged children who attend the Light Stream Academy, but the vision is much bigger than that!

LEAP has a vision to overcome the lingering effects of Liberia’s civil war to help Liberia become self-sustaining with an overflow that pours into the surrounding African nations.
